G.I. Joe 3 Movie Review: The 3rd Part of the Biggest Action 'G.I. Joe' Film Series

G.I. Joe 3 Movie Review: It is the third biggest action series of G.I Joe film series. Perfect movie for people who love the action genre. As soon as I started watching this movie my eyes were immediately glued to the screen, there were a few dull scenes but nothing that dragged on. The fighting and action scenes were pretty far fetched but that is what I loved about the movie. Everybody did a great job at their roles, Dwayne Johnson is turning into one of my favorite action stars, I'm not sure if he's technically an action star yet but in my head he is. If you saw the first G. I. Joe this will make a lot of sense but if you didn't I suggest you watch that one first. So basically I'm saying that the plot could be a little confusing at times but overall this is a great movie I would love to watch this film again and again. Highly recommended. G.I. G.I. Joe: Retaliation unleashes giant set-pieces one after the other, and they all explode to life with ferocity. Once the desert base attack unfolds Retaliation totally kicks in and doesn't stop delivering knockout action.

When Cobra unleash their deadly attack upon the Joes and Duke is killed, the remaining Joes go for all out revenge and aim to make that responsible pay. Not only is Retaliation a brilliant action movie it also serves as a great vengeance flick as Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Adrianne Palicki and D.J. Cotrona reign hell on Cobra and dig deep into the government. I love the new cast, and there are a few surprises along the way too that involve returning character Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes! Adrianne Palicki and Elodie Yung are the sexiest female leads I've seen since Skyfall, unbelievably hot and very talented, and seriously good at fighting.

The special effects are magnificent and they are a lot more consistent and stronger that its predecessor, plus the action sequences are absolutely mind blowing. The mountain temple fight is one of the best action scenes of 2013, the effect it had on me left me jaw dropped at the craft and intensity here. Then there's the scene where London gets obliterated, that has to be seen just so you can admire the sheer scale of it all. The final battle is so much fun, this is where Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson really kicks into battle mode and brings out the big guns and races around in a modified tank, and the face/off between him and Ray Stevenson's Firefly is pretty good! Bruce Willis has been in a lot of forgettable movies lately, and his performances aren't that great, but in G.I. Joe, he's very funny, and the banter between him and Palicki is entertaining.

The story itself may not be solid gold, and at times it does seem to go all over the place, but the action and visuals are enough to compensate for that, plus the killer cast makes this film even more enjoyable. "Retaliation" strikes a much better balance between the over-the-top sci-fi theatrics and the grounded military action that have come to define the G.I. Joe brand than its predecessor did. This is not a great movie (although it's leagues beyond "The Rise of Cobra"), but Dwayne Johnson's magnetic presence keeps things engaging, even if he's surrounded by the sorely wasted Adrianne Palicki and the might-as-well-be-invisible DJ Cotrona. Jonathan Pryce, on the other hand, gets a lot of room to stretch his acting muscles, essentially playing 3 characters and clearly having a lot of fun doing it. Byng-hun Lee is also a joy to watch as Storm Shadow; that guy really needs his own huge action franchise.

The inventive cliffside ninja battle is the best sequence in the film, especially in contrast to the weirdly low-key finale. I'd be fine with the latter if things were a bit more personal between Roadblock and Firefly, and if we hadn't been shown the disgustingly indulgent destruction of London-- a moment completely devoid of any humanity whatsoever, and one of the worst offenders of the "disaster porn" trope I've ever seen-- that seems to set up something far more epic than we're given. Still, a Walton Goggins cameo and a weirdly bizarre performance by RZA make up for a lot; "Retaliation" is a surprisingly enjoyable action flick.
